Jan Oversized Knit Sweater in Black Beaded Silk

The Jan sweater is handmade by artisans in Uruguay using a hand-flat knitting machine. The yarn is a combination of a textural silk yarn and a sleek silk yarn that has tiny glass beads spun onto it. The fit is an easy 'boyfriend' fit.

Silk is known for its luxurious drape, luster and ability to take rich color. It is the strongest natural fiber and has low density, creating light and comfortable fabric. Silk’s resilient elasticity maintains garment shape, and its smooth surface is resistant to attracting dirt. Silk keeps you cool in warm weather and provides insulating warmth in cool weather.

This mill encourages the use of sustainable materials, focuses efforts on preserving animal welfare, and maximizing their use/eliminating waste and recycling in their processes . They abide by an ethical code of environmental balance in sourcing and producing natural fibres and encourage the preservation of the natural environment. This garment was produced at a Fair Trade women’s co-operative in Uruguay. They are a non-profit, founded by five women in 1968. Their mission is to provide work opportunity for rural women artisans, so they can gain income near their family and home instead of moving to the city for work.
